How you use it
  1. Open from anywhere. Tap a document in your file manager, email, or chat and choose Folio — or open Folio and pick the file yourself. It registers for every format it reads.
  2. Read. Move through PDF pages, pinch to zoom, or open the app’s focused reading views for documents, sheets, and slides.
  3. Edit the editable. Markdown and plain text open in a live editor and save back to the same file. Other supported formats are read-only; PPTX is presented as a text outline rather than a pixel-faithful slide renderer.
  4. Share only when you choose. Nothing leaves the phone unless you tap share yourself.
What it opens

PDF

Renders on-device. Navigate, pinch to zoom, search the full document, print, and share. Long-press copies the text off any page.

Word documents

.docx and .rtf in a clean reading view — text, headings, and tables, laid out to be read rather than reflowed into soup.

Spreadsheets

.xlsx and .csv as a real table, with the values your workbook actually holds.

Slides

.pptx as a clean outline of every slide title and its body text — the content, without waiting on a rendering engine.

Markdown

Built-in source editor with a native preview. Edit and save back to the same file without a WebView.

Plain text

UTF-8 safe, large-file friendly. Open log files and config files without thinking about encoding.

Why free

Reading a document should not require a subscription.

Most Android document apps either charge a monthly fee, fill the screen with ads, or both. Folio PDF is the opposite of that — a fast, ad-free reader for the formats you already have. It costs nothing because reading documents should not cost anything.

The app is part of the ClassEve product family but it does not require a ClassEve account. Open it, point it at a file, and read.

Requirements

Android 9 or later

Requires Android 9 or later. File-picker, share, print, and rendering behavior can vary by device and installed apps.

Formats

Modern formats: .pdf, .docx, .rtf, .xlsx, .csv, .pptx, .md and plain text. The pre-2007 Microsoft formats (.xls, .ppt) and OpenDocument (.ods, .odp) are not supported.

Storage access

Files open through the system picker - the app reads only what you point at, not the rest of your storage.

Offline by construction

Folio ships without Android’s Internet permission. Not disabled — absent. It cannot send your documents anywhere, because it cannot open a connection at all.
