Live speech translation in your ear. Walk into a room where nobody speaks your language and hear them as if they did.
earslate is free. There is no ClassEve account or subscription. You provide a valid Gemini or OpenAI API key for the provider you choose.
- Choose your language. Set the one you speak. earslate works out the other person’s by listening, and answers them in it — fixing that side by hand is an option under Advanced, not a step.
- Choose a provider. Add your Gemini or OpenAI API key in Settings, then select the provider you want the app to contact.
- Start translating. Tap the earslate tile and speak. Audio goes directly from your phone to the selected provider. ClassEve does not receive the session audio or returned translation.
- Put in your earbuds. Any Bluetooth or wired earbuds Android recognises — no special hardware.
- Pick your language once. Set the language you want to hear in the app; it is remembered until you change it. The other person’s side is worked out from what is spoken, and can be corrected mid-session.
- Tap the earslate tile. Start the session from Android Quick Settings while using your device. Lock-screen access depends on Android version, device policy, and the state of the phone.
- Hear the translation as the provider returns it. Delay and quality vary with the selected provider, network, language pair, audio, and device conditions.
- Tap again to stop. The session ends, the microphone stops, done.
Broad language coverage
Spanish, Mandarin, Hindi, Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Tamil, Telugu, and more, depending on the selected provider.
Gemini or OpenAI
Add your Gemini or OpenAI API key in Settings and select that provider. The app stores the key using Android protected credential storage and sends session audio directly to the provider; ClassEve does not receive the key or audio.
Free, no account
No ClassEve sign-up, subscription, or ClassEve charge. A valid provider API key is required, and that provider’s own usage limits, terms, and charges apply.

What is earslate?
earslate is an Android app that translates nearby speech in real time and plays the translation into your earbuds, so you can follow a conversation in a language you do not speak.
How does earslate's live translation work?
A Quick Settings tile starts a session in one tap. The app uses the provider API key you entered and sends session audio directly to the selected Gemini or OpenAI endpoint; ClassEve does not operate a credential broker or receive the session audio.
How many languages does earslate support?
Coverage depends on the selected provider; the app offers a curated set of widely used languages supported by its live translation providers.
Which devices does earslate run on?
The current public release is for Android 10 or later. There is no public iPhone or iPad release. Earbuds or headphones are recommended so translated audio does not play aloud into the same conversation.
Does earslate need an internet connection?
Yes. Translation runs through Gemini or OpenAI, so earslate needs a network connection during a session.
How much does earslate cost, and do I need a ClassEve account?
earslate is free and open source, with no ClassEve account or subscription. You provide a valid Gemini or OpenAI API key, stored using Android's protected credential facilities, and session audio goes directly from your phone to that provider. ClassEve operates no server in the translation path.
